Button is still quite SOLID and displays very well! Likely Albert’s CS 183 two-piece with border. A low convex local (?) Confederate I button with a tinned iron back. Measures about 23 mm. Legally recovered near the Wilderness battlefield in Virginia (in an area where Longstreet’s troops prepared for action). CONDITION: Very nice face with a wonderful patina. Very minor edge loss. Tin back corroded with remnants of shank which may have been slightly reinforced. (#p2674)

A nice lot of ten antique 19th century (pre-Civil War) buttons without shanks. Most appear to be pewter. The largest in this lot is about 1 1/8 inches diameter. A group of five original CIVIL WAR Eagle coat buttons. These Federal (Union) buttons were legally "dug" at a variety of Civil War campsites in Northern Virginia. Most still have a little campsite dirt! CONDITION: All have shanks. Ground action as shown. SEE SCANS. (#p2861)
