Cartridge Box ~ Relic (Rough) Condition!
Displays rather well despite its flaws! An original Federal Civil War cartridge box (regulation issue for .58 caliber ammunition) with super maker’s stamp "H. S. CONDICT & CO. -- NEWARK N.J." on inner flap! Not a common manufacturer, this example was probably made in 1862 (when this maker’s contract was issued). CONDITION: A fixer-upper! Complete, flexible front and rear panels, with closing strap. Back has belt loops/sling guides. Leather rather decent but the box has been flattened. Front flap takes U.S. oval plate (not included) and retains about 85% of the original finish with fine cracking. Inner flap has good finish with worm tracks. Implement pouch has decent finish, about 40% worn with some worm tracks on one spot on top. One end panel is hinged out with broken stitching on one side. The other end panel is missing. Lacks half moon end cap on one side. Interior implement pouch is missing flap and closing strap. No tins or sling buckles. Reverse finish quite good with some luster, a few areas with some cracking. PRICED ACCORDINGLY! (#p2642)

Mann’s Patent Model 1864 Shoulder Strap
INCREDIBLY RARE! Nearly every Mann’s Infantry cartridge box has had the straps cut off! There were two sewn to the back of the box. See Todd’s Military Equipage (Volume 1, page 198). This single example was broken from the back of the box about 5 inches below the brass hook at the bottom of the strap. Measures about 30 inches long, plus 9 inches more folded back on itself at the top (which ends with a flat brass hook). CONDITION: Fairly strong and flexible with most of the original finish. Shows some surface cracking and additional (normal) signs of age. (#p2668)
