A nice example of an original (circa 1865) ABRAHAM LINCOLN MEMORIAL RIBBON. An embroidered silk Stevengraph titled "The Late Lamented President Lincoln" and made by Thomas Stevens of Coventry, England. This beautifully crafted ribbon was produced and sold to memorialize the recently assassinated President of the United States! Similar examples shown in "COLLECTING LINCOLN" by Stuart Schneider on pages 243 and 244. Measures about 2 1/8 x 9 3/16 inches. NOTE: There were several variations of these ribbons produced by Stevens. CONDITION: Some fading and spotting. Additional minor signs of age. No tassel. Please see scans. (#p2937)

ADDITIONAL NOTES: On Stevengraphs: English weaver Thomas Stevens was among the most successful in adapting the jacquard loom to weaving silk. Based in the English weaving center of Coventry, he first introduced ribbons similar to the one offered here around 1862.
