From the War Department Adjutant General’s Office, dated December 8, 1863. An ORIGINAL Civil War document (General Orders No. 115) issued "by direction of the President of the United States" and signed by W. A. Nichols. After the assassination William A. Nichols was an HONORARY PALLBEARER for President Abraham Lincoln.

CONDITION: Very Good. Very small pinhole. Clipped from a larger document, now measures about 4 1/8 x 5 1/2 inches. (#p2452T)

ADDITIONAL NOTES: William Augustus Nichols was made Brevet Brig. Gen. USA on September 24, 1864 and a Brevet Maj. Gen. on March 13, 1865.
