An original colonial era pay document for "forty one pounds" payable to one Benjamin Croft and signed by John Bayard as Speaker of the Pennsylvania General Assembly.  Bayard served as speaker of the Pennsylvania General Assembly  from 1777-1780 and again from 1784-1785. One page measuring about 4 X 2 1/2 inches. ADDITIONAL NOTES: John Bayard moved to Pennsylvania in 1756 and settled in Philadelphia.  Mr. Bayard was a member of the Continental Congress from 1785 to 1786. During the Revolutionary War he was Colonel of the Second Regiment of Philadelphia Volunteers and served in the Battles of Brandywine, Germantown, and Princeton.
